Description
A quick and family-friendly side dish, this Air Fryer Onion Boil turns simple onions into tender, buttery, flavor-packed bites. Perfect for weeknight dinners, BBQs, or holiday meals.
Ingredients
4 large sweet or yellow onions
4 tablespoons butter (or dairy-free alternative)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
Optional herbs: thyme, rosemary, parsley
Instructions
Peel the onions and trim the bottoms so they sit flat. Hollow out the center slightly if desired.
Place the onion in a small piece of foil or directly in the air fryer basket.
Add butter, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and optional herbs into the center.
Preheat air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
Cook onions for 18–22 minutes, checking halfway and rotating if needed.
Onions are done when tender and easy to pierce with a fork.
Optional: drizzle with extra butter, sprinkle herbs, or top with cheese before serving.
Notes
For a vegan version, replace butter with olive oil or plant-based butter.
Red onions can be used, but they have a stronger flavor.
For kids, keep seasoning mild. For adults, add smoked paprika or chili flakes.
Cook in batches for larger families; keep cooked onions warm in a low oven.
